Fluoride Treatments

What are Fluoride Treatments?

Fluoride can often be found in the majority of dental products available on the market. Fluoride is specifically designed to protect and strengthen teeth, making them less likely to develop cavities. Fluoride treatments are most often beneficial for children who are more prone to developing cavities. However, there is absolutely no age limit on who could benefit from fluoride treatments, so they're ideal for our adult patients as well.

Why might Fluoride Treatments be needed?

There are a few reasons for why you might benefit from fluoride treatments. For one, you might be more prone to tooth decay and already have a lot of fillings in multiple teeth. Likewise, you might be looking for a way to further protect and strengthen your smile without the constant need for fluoridated products at home. Fluoride is ideal for children who need that extra layer of protection against tooth decay.

Who is a candidate for Fluoride Treatments?

To determine if you're a good candidate for fluoride treatment, we can conduct an examination in our office. There is absolutely no age limit when it comes to who would benefit from fluoride. Fluoride treatments are safe and highly effective when applied directly in the dental office. For children, we may recommend fluoride treatments in conjunction with their cleanings and exams.

What happens during the Fluoride Treatment process?

The first step is to clean and dry the teeth. We then brush a liquid fluoride varnish onto the teeth. This liquid absorbs into the teeth and protects them from decay. You will be instructed to avoid rinsing, eating or drinking until all of the fluoride has been absorbed. You can have these treatments done as often as needed in our office. In some cases, we will recommend that you have fluoride treatment if we feel you would benefit from protecting and strengthening your teeth against areas of tooth decay.
