Fluoride Treatments

What is Fluoride?

Fluoride is a mineral that is naturally present in many foods and available as a dietary supplement. Fluoride is the ionic form of the element fluorine, and it inhibits or reverses the initiation and progression of dental cavities. Fluoride does this by flowing into the tubules that are in the outer layer (enamel) of our teeth to help strengthen the enamel and remineralize weak areas of our teeth (or protect the teeth from becoming weak.

What are Fluoride Treatments?

Fluoride can often be found in the majority of dental products available on the market. Fluoride is specifically designed to protect and strengthen teeth, making them less likely to develop cavities. Fluoride treatments are most often beneficial for children who are more prone to developing cavities. However, there is absolutely no age limit on who could benefit from fluoride treatments, so they're ideal for our adult patients as well. At Broadway Dental, we provide hydroxyapatite treatments as well as fluoride treatments in the form of varnish - a thick, paste-like consistency that gets applied to each tooth after dental cleanings; as well as selective targeted treatment for pre-cavity lesions
